School Mail Route Delivery/Pick-up Information
The school mail trucks begin delivery and pick-up on the first day that principals resume their daily duties after the summer break. The service continues on a regular basis until principal contracts end. Each school or location is assigned a route and specific days when mail will be delivered and picked up. To better serve the schools, two specific areas should be established—one for mail route delivery/pick-up and another for discard pick-up.
Area 1: Mail Pick-up Area
One location should be designated for mail service. Mail will be delivered in a gray, heavyweight, plastic box labeled “Knox County Schools Media Center.” These boxes should only be used for mail. Larger items (boxes, overhead projectors, etc.) should be placed in the vicinity of the box to facilitate the pick-up process.
Important Directions
(1) Mark clearly the recipient’s location, route code, and name.
(2) Include complete names of facilities (e.g., Farragut Intermediate [70], 5th Avenue Maintenance, Andrew Johnson Building)
(3) Place the following larger items in the Mail Pick-up Area:
Area 2: Discard Pick-up Area
This separate area should be located away from the mail pick-up area to avoid confusion and the potential loss of valuable resources. The discard area should be located near an outside door for ease of pick-up and, when possible, out of sight in case of a delay in pick-up. A School Mail Pick-Up Request Form (MC-115) should be completed for these items and only for these items. This form, available on the Knox County Schools website, should be sent to the attention of Coy McCarter at the Knox Central Building or faxed to him at 594-1451.
Important Information
(1) Boxes should not exceed 50 lbs. And should be no larger than a copy paper box
(2) Labels for these items can be downloaded from the Knox County Schools website under the Media Center subheading of the Forms page or from the links below.
(3) Items to include in this area are:
